The two companies will also build and operate a facility in the US that will be the “first at-scale facility” of its kind to upcycle manufacturing byproduct into insect protein. All aspects of production, from breeding to incubating to hatching of larvae, will take place in the new facility.

The most popular part of the displays were the incubators with live, hatching chicks that they placed at two libraries and a YMCA in Kansas City, KS. From there they applied for, and won, a $1,000 Community Action Plan Grant to start building their first upcycled chicken coop. Phase two was all about building the coops.

Capro-X Technology at a glance: Based in Ithaca, NY, Capro-X deploys a biorefining platform that upcycles organic waste to fatty-acid building block biochemicals that can be used in a wide range of applications. The startup is also continuing its relationship with Fluor, working with the company via its business incubation program.
