The 174-MW Tauhara geothermal power plant by Contact Energy in New Zealand has officially been opened, a culmination of three and a half years of construction and an investment of $924 million. At the full 174-MW capacity, the Tauhara geothermal power station can supply electricity to 200,000 homes in New Zealand.

(APRI) has signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. This project will provide battery storage for APRI’s Makban geothermal power plant, allowing it to support the power grid during periods of peak demand and power disruption.

Tsuchiyu Onsen, a hot spring resort sixteen kilometers from Fukushima in Japan, is home to a geothermal power plant that successfully generates 400 kW of electricity , which is enough to power roughly 800 homes , as well as a local shrimp farm. This generates further revenue for local businesses.

Austin Energy , the electric utility company of Austin, Texas, is partnering with Exceed Energy Inc. for a 5-MW first-of-its-kind geothermal pilot project near the Nacogdoches biomass facility. According to the company’s release, the pilot is expected to start producing electricity by 2025.

PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal (PT MCG) has officially announced the start of commercial operations of the 35-MW Ijen Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), making it the first geothermal power facility in the East Java region of Indonesia. The project is supported by 83 transmission towers and 150 kV of transmission lines.
