Microbes across the world and in deep oceans are evolving to eat plastic, according to a new study. The report, published in the journal Microbial Ecology, found over 30,000 enzymes that can degrade over 10 different types of plastics. The large-scale study scanned over 200 million genes found in DNA samples to arrive at the findings.

Recent research done by Lancaster University has found that solar parks could provide vital habitats for wildlife. Specifically, the researchers say that wildflowers grown beside solar panels could provide the perfect habitat for bumblebees. The study, which will be presented on Monday at a conference held by Ecology Across Borders, shows that if the parks are managed well, they could be vital in helping the ecosystem flourish.

A study published in Nature Reviews Endocrinology has linked decreasing fertility rates in humans to burning fossil fuels. The study established that childbirth has steadily declined over the past 50 years. Although the study focused on Denmark, many other nations seem to follow the trend.

A new study, published in Science , shows that regrowing tropical forests recover surprisingly fast on abandoned land. After 20 years, they can attain on average nearly 80% of the soil fertility, soil carbon storage, structure, and tree diversity of old-growth forests. The study concludes that natural regeneration is a low-cost, nature-based solution for climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem restoration.
