North Teeside will host the first Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in the UK, with facilities to be delivered by a collaboration between US nuclear firm Westinghouse Electric Company and Community Nuclear Power (CNP), based in Cumbria. The 8 February announcement detailed the intention to deploy four Westinghouse AP300 SMRs at the site, a technology previously selected by Great British Nuclear (GBN) in October.

The new H2 facility will be constructed at the Cuerdale Lane site on greenbelt land next to the AB InBev (Anheuser-Busch InBev) brewery in Samlesbury and will power the brewery in place of natural gas.
