Earths oceans caught a fever in March 2023 that has yet to break. Since then, the bathwater-like conditions have killed corals in a record-breaking mass bleaching event , fueled hurricanes , and collapsed entire fisheries. The two years of heat have created a scientific mystery , with 450 straight days of record high global sea surface temperatures from April 2023 to July 2024 a streak that exceeded climate scientists predictions even when accounting for climate change and the natural climate p

Coal seam gas producer seeks approval for a small solar farm and battery, which it insists will "cut emissions" from its massive gas expansion project. The post CSG company proposes small solar farm and battery to “cut emissions” at expanded gas project appeared first on RenewEconomy.
A team of engineers and materials scientists from the U.S. has found that holes of a certain size and shape placed in certain locations can turn a slightly flexible and stretchy battery pouch into one that can be stretched significantly or folded 180 degrees. In their paper published in Matter, the group describes how they came up with the design and explain how it makes a battery that is barely stretchy into one that can be folded.

With the first wave of the energy transition, renewable energy sources (such as solar and wind) have begun replacing coal power generation. However, some sectors are lagging behind and struggling to decarbonize more than others, including large-scale transportation like commercial aviation, shipping, and rail transit. Electrofuels (aka eFuels) are the next generation of solutions to help the hardest-to-abate sectors pivot from their reliance on fossil fuels.

From the first reports of wildfires breaking out around Los Angeles earlier this month, scientists could say that climate change had worsened the blazes. Sure, wildfires would burn in California regardless of planetary warming, but extra-dry fuels had turned the landscape into tinder. The resulting blazes, fanned by 100-mile-per-hour Santa Ana wind gusts, burned 50,000 acres.

The fires in Los Angeles represent a catastrophic failure to anticipate and respond to environmental threats. In the aftermath of such devastation, an obvious question looms: How did we miss the warning signs? The answer is clear. Unlike other feedback systems designed to drive immediate response think of the life-saving equipment in intensive care units, or even a cars fuel gauge the tools we use to monitor climate resilience and risk are dangerously, and indefensibly, outdated.
