Icelandic construction company ISTAK has started work on the new power station building as part of the expansion work at the Svartsengi geothermal power plant in Iceland. Groundbreaking of the expansion project was reported in early 2023. Today, the installed power in Svartsengi is around 66 MW.

The project had been shut down in 2010 amidst concerns over the steam field’s capability of supporting the 49-MW power plant.
