Air Pollution Changes Through The Pandemic – A European Barometer

Athens, Greece improved air quality with a ~35% drop in pollutants from 2019 to 2021 while Reykjavík had the highest air pollution increase of ~14%. A new study by Uswitch out of the United Kingdom shows some significant changes in air quality in many major European cities over the last two years.

A team led by environmental physicist Stefan Schreier at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna is attempting to build up a better picture of nitrogen dioxide pollution in the city. The group is using MAX-DOAS instruments mounted on top of buildings to build a more accurate map of pollutant distribution.
