Solar geoengineering, for example, does nothing to ameliorate ocean acidification, which occurs when the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It is part of a broader university effort to become a global leader in the climate and energy space. Even in best-case scenarios, it would be only a partial stopgap.
